Here is another photo that is a bit of a mystery to me. In this attractive household setting is a figure (a woman, I’m assuming) posing with a rifle, and possibly another firearm in her pants pocket. To my modern eyes this is a costume, but who knows? I’m not sure what’s going on here, but it’s fun to speculate.
Looks to me like she already shot a hole in the curtain behind her. An Annie Oakley wannabe.
Ha! I think that’s probably a blemish in the photo, but I wouldn’t put it past her.
The prominent photo on the dresser behind her looks like it might be of a WW1 soldier, and her leggings are similar to the ones from the men’s uniforms. I wonder if she could be a member of some kind of women’s home guard or military-style club? And Annie Oakley did teach women’s shooting classes, so she could have been a student!
I noticed the photo, too. (Not to mention the arm of somebody sitting to the right just out of frame.) I like your suggestions!
Gah! I didn’t see that arm before! Was startled.
I’d looked at the photo many times, but I didn’t notice the arm until I enlarged the photo to post it here.
Reblogged this on Antiques Dublin.
The dresser is from either early 1900 or late 1800’s. I had one given to me which was my Uncle’s.
That sounds about right. It must have been a nice piece to have.
Yes, I wonder about the person who has been cut out of the photo – you see their arm, skirt, and shoes… and I wish I could tell what all is on that dresser (besides the photo).
It’s a pretty tiny photo, so I was happy I could get as much detail out of the enlargement as I did. But yes, I always want to see more.
