Woman with violin
Click here to view it larger.
What it is:
Real photo post card trimmed down to 2.75 x 3.5 inches.
What I know about it:
Undated and unidentified, though the paper manufacturer’s markings (AZO, four triangles pointing up) narrow the date range to 1904-1918.
Comments:
I’ve wondered whether the woman here actually plays the violin, or is just acting as a model to help create an idealized scene that’s a tribute to beauty and music. Or both.
It looks like she knows how to carry her instrument . Beautiful photo , very nicely done.
Thanks, glad you like it.
I have a feeling that she could play or definitely learning to play.
Yes, I agree that’s probably the case.
Great pic!
Thanks, Mrs. P!
Maybe she is just learning, hence hiding in the yard as she practices. She doesn’t look to keen on being photographed.
Could be. I got the sense she was posing someplace pretty, not to mention well-lit, but I see no music or anything that might indicate she’s actually rehearsing. So I figured it was probably to commemorate her violin playing in general.
Perhaps it is some type of publicity photo in a rustic setting – like the local symphony was playing Beethoven’s #6, the “Pastoral” and the picture was in the community newspaper? Beautiful picture!
Yes, something like that is a good guess.
