Photographer is Hurd & Bordeleau of North Adams, Massachusetts. Otherwise undated and unidentified.
Comments:
This is another of the photos my mother gave me. By coincidence, it is the same photographer as the one here, though they came to me from different sources. I’m guessing this is a christening gown. It’s so gloriously voluminous that the baby looks almost like an afterthought. Though I see no obvious evidence of a fastening device or a hidden mother, it seems fairly certain that this baby is wedged securely into place for the photo.

Lovely presentation. But what a story with this ridiculous costume of ” hidden mother “. It was like mother had no right to be presented with her child. Very strange use . Thank you for sharing it .
