Moody children, with timber
Click here to view it larger.
What it is:
Photo (3.75 x 4.75 inches) mounted to a cardboard frame/backing (6 x 7.25 inches; I have cropped most of the backing from this scan).
What I know about it:
Something is written in pencil at the bottom of the frame. It is so faint that it is nearly illegible, but it appears to say Mabel & George. Otherwise no information.
Comments:
I’ve resisted posting this one because of the damage, particularly the big tear running through the girl’s skirt, but I decided it amused me enough that I’d share it. They appear to be dressed nicely for some occasion, maybe something like the first day of school. But they sure don’t look happy about it. And while I’m guessing they went outdoors to take advantage of the sunshine to light the shot, they picked a remarkably unscenic location. Of course, that might be the most attractive spot around their house, which may have something to do with why the look so unhappy.
Moody? That boy killed 6 cats and a duck before the day was over. In prison he was known as Johnny timber, and was largely left alone. He had one friend who specialized in cat burglaries, except there were few cats left to steal.
And that’s just the boy!
The girl is completely checked out. She is looking elsewhere and is listening to something no one else hears. While I’m sure it was not your intention, this is actually a scary photo. Whatever parenting these kids were getting made them both insane.
I agree, it’s easy to read this photo as something spooky and unsettling.
