I can’t tell if this is a boy or a girl.  I was leaning towards thinking it was a boy, but maybe that’s because I’m more used to seeing big ears on men than women.  And maybe that’s because our culture accepts them on men more than women, so women hide them more (though I do have a male friend who had his big ears surgically pinned back as a child).  Maybe it’s just that women are better able to hide them because it’s more culturally acceptable for them to wear long hair.  Or maybe I’m just overthinking this.

  1. I’m thinking boy too, big feet and hair kept short although there’s not much of it, to be fair. But the gender stereotypes were in full swing so a girl might have had a bow or ribbons in the hair to compensate. Is this a family photo? So wonderful.

    • Thanks for the comment! I’m glad you like the photo. That’s a good point about the likelihood of a ribbon or something to indicate a girl. No, it’s not a family photo (not my family, anyway). My blog is just pictures from my photo collection, random antique photos I’ve gathered over the years. I have refrained from posting family photos, since I consider them separate from my collection.

  2. Hi Matt. Looks like a boy to me. I reckon he growed up ugly, had a name like Clem, and drank too much.
