What it is:
Photo measuring a bit less than 3.5 x 2.5 inches. Mounting traces on the back indicate it was previously mounted into a photo album.
What I know about it:
Nothing. Undated and unidentified.
Comments:
I thought, even looking at the small photo I held in my hand, that this was a visually striking image. The horse leans in so that its head and neck are running parallel to the fence rails slashing across the image. They run counter to the woman’s bold upright pose, her arm akimbo, standing there in a way that almost stops the motion of the image. And the depth of the background gives the whole thing a full feeling. At least to me. I’m not sure what the woman is holding in her left hand, but I think it might be a camera, which means that at least two people felt this occasion was worth documenting. It makes me wonder what other images from that day I’m not seeing.
