I bought several Cartes de Visite (CDVs) last weekend, so here’s another one. It’s a little faded, but I was so in awe of her outfit that I bought it anyway. The only information is that the photographer is H. Gorvin & Son of Swansea, Wales. At first I was slightly disappointed that it didn’t have a revenue stamp on the back to help me date it like some of the others did, but then I remembered that of course it wouldn’t, since Wales wasn’t exactly issuing revenue stamps to fund the American Civil War.
That’s quite a dress!
It is! Imagine caring for it.
I imagine it would have been worn sparingly–and cautiously!
Yes, indeed!
