I found this in a second-hand store yesterday and couldn’t resist. It’s a 10×8 glossy photo that was framed, and on the back of the frame was written “Miles Labs / Ill”. I’m guessing that’s Miles Laboratories, makers of such products as Alka-Seltzer and One-A-Day vitamins. And though the company was based in Indiana, this was apparently a location in Illinois. Perhaps a gathering of regional sales reps or something? It’s otherwise unidentified and undated, though goodness knows the clothes help date it. It’s definitely worth looking at the enlargement to examine all the different fabrics. I immediately noticed, and was delighted by, the racial diversity in the mix, though I’m embarrassed that it took me a couple of looks before I noticed that one of these people is a woman. (It seems so obvious now.) Part of what I love about this picture is that, for the most part, they aren’t just standing there with camera-ready corporate smiles plastered on their faces, but instead seem to genuinely be happy to be there.
The butterfly bow tie, crazy bold patterns and hair styles makes this a 70’s group photo
I was there ( in the 70’s )
Yes, definitely. I was there (in the 70s), too. Despite being around a half-century old, photos like this have a refreshing familiarity to me. 🙂
The presence of two Black men reflects well on the company. But only one woman? We’ve come a long way since then….
By “We,” I mean We as a society.
Yes, indeed.
