Seated wedding portrait

This is an anonymous 4.25 x 5.5 inch photo, glued into a 6×9 cardboard frame/folder (which I cropped from the scan). Two things caught my attention about it. First, I’m intrigued by the pose, particularly how the man is perched on whatever that furniture is (the back of a chair? some sort of tiered end table?) in a way that is surprisingly casual for a wedding portrait, and also borderline awkward. Was the pose designed to make him look taller than his new bride? But second, I’m struck by the overall beauty of the photo, and I’m sure they must have cherished it.
He should have been seated at her level. Other than that it’s very nice.
That could have been nice. Putting them at staggered levels is more visually interesting, but why not just have him stand?
Exactly. Or have him sit while she stands, which was quite common. Maybe too common, and they wanted to do something different?
Yes! Funny, I did a post about that years ago (when a previous scanner was still scanning in odd hues, and I hadn’t figured out how to provide enlargements LOL). https://wordpress.com/post/picsofthen.com/157
The link doesn’t seem to work, but I’d like to see your post. Try again?
Oops, sorry. Let me try that again: https://picsofthen.com/2011/08/15/woman-standing-man-sitting-in-new-haven/
I remember them! They’re such a good-looking couple.
