This is a cabinet card from the photographic studio of Lewis & Hoffer in Nyack, New York. Written on the back is “Baby Will”. I love the setting, the grass on the rocky mound with scattered leaves. The fact that it’s an indistinct, foggy backdrop, rather than a specific natural landscape, combines with the untidy quality of his hair to make it look like he’s climbed to the top of a hill on a blustery day.
