Charming young Italian couple
What it is:
Photo measuring approx. 4 x 5.75 inches.
What I know about it:
Photographer is F. Testa of Savigliano, Italy. Written on the back in pen: Alla nostra cara cuginetta offriamo questo ricordo per esserle sempre vicino / Piero e Mariuccia
Comments:
I thought it was time for something a little newer for variety’s sake. Google Translator can be spotty sometimes, but it translates this inscription as: To our dear cousin we offer this reminder to be always near / Piero and Mariuccia. I think this is an adorable couple. I find it odd when people pose for studio photos wearing outdoor coats, but oh, well. Am I imagining things, or is the focus on her face softer than his face, and softer even than her coat? Was such a thing realistically feasible with the technology then? Perhaps one of the photo experts out there can tell me. I didn’t notice it until I blew up the scan. Though I have to say, it’s not like she needed the help.
I am certainly NOT an expert, however, if the photographer used a wide aperture and focused on the man’s face, the woman’s face might turn out slightly softer. His head is behind hers, thus her head might not have fallen within the shallow depth of field and narrow focal plane using a wide open lens.
That makes perfect sense. You’re probably right. Thanks!
