Older woman, seated with a fan
Click here to view it larger.
What it is:
Photo (6.5 x 9.25 inches) mounted with a piece of paper (6.5 x 10.25 inches) onto a cardboard frame/backing (11 x 16 inches; I have cropped most of the backing from this scan).
What I know about it:
I believe the penciled name in the lower right is the photographer. It’s hard to read, but it appears to say Johnstone. Otherwise undated and unidentified.
Comments:
This woman doesn’t look dressed so much as upholstered, but I think the overall effect is quite elegant. With an 11 x 16 backing, this is one of the larger pieces in my collection.
Upholstered, what an interesting description! Very expensive handiwork on that dress…a lot of hours went into making that!
Yes, it’s a gorgeous dress with an amazing amount of work in it.
I have started thinking about how it would be received if I took a fan round with me in the summer months. I have been seeing women in Miami carry them now and I think it would be magnificent!
Give it a try and report back! 🙂 It’s so nice when fashion meets functionality.
Upholstered! HA! She has such a lovely face and gaze, and looks like someone I’d want to know.
Yes, that sort of look could easily have gone in more of a stern, unpleasant direction, but she looks like she might be nice.
I so agree with dsavannah…this is a woman I would love to meet over tea. She seems fascinating.
She looks like somebody who would be very proper and polite, but would still have some amazing stories to tell.
