Comments:
According to this page here, the photographer Daniel Slutsky, an immigrant from Poland, became so successful that he had multiple studios, with the one here on Snyder Avenue being his primary location. Among his successes, he was hired to take the student photos for a number of schools around Philadelphia, and supposedly pioneered the composite format of class photos, arranging multiple small student portraits onto a single class page. It never occurred to me to wonder who might have done that first. As for our couple here, they are dressed well enough, with even the man wearing a boutonniere, that I wonder if the are commemorating an occasion. Slutsky sold his studio and name to another photographer in 1948. Somebody with a better sense of clothing might be able to say whether this photo was taken before or after that date.
It reminds me of a wedding photo – perhaps a second marriage.
We’re thinking alike! I was also guessing a second marriage.
Or maybe parents of the bridal couple? I’m guessing mid-1930’s, but I’m not 100% sure there isn’t any 1940’s stuff going on here.
Parents of one of the couple is a good idea, too.
I have photos from this studio too! Do you know when it was in operation or anything about it?
Hi, thanks for the message. How fun that you have other photos from this studio! Sorry, but I didn’t find any more information about it than what I put in the “comments” section.
